I look for opportunities to celebrate beauty, both personally and professionally. I write about art because it provides a lens to understand how others perceive the world.
Book reviewing became a cornerstone of my freelance work when I began writing for BookPage in 2008. In addition to frequent review work, I also interview authors and produce feature packages about books and other aspects of storytelling.
As a columnist for a small-town newspaper and a digital journalist for Alabama’s largest news outlet, I’ve had many chances for public self reflection.
When I travel, I seek opportunities to better understand a community. Those frequently show up as I explore the history of each place.
My music writing experience includes founding the blog Birmingham Box Set, which ran from 2008 to 2014. I continue to write about music, particularly in Birmingham, Alabama.
