It’s release day for “Muscle Shoals Sound Studio: How the Swampers Changed American Music”

It’s been more than a year since I decided to tackle this project, and yet it still doesn’t quite seem real. Tonight we’ll launch “Muscle Shoals Sound Studio: How the Swampers Changed American Music” with a book signing at Alabama Booksmith. In the meantime, take a peek at reviews of music recorded at Muscle Shoals Sound and stories about the studio on my Muscle Shoals Sound Studio Pinterest board. Hope to see you tonight!

  1. Hi Carla – just purchased your book – Muscle Shoals Sound Studio and finished reading it within a few hours – which is always s good sign – I visited the studios (3614 Jackson Highway and FAME) from the UK back in 2016. I met many luminaries from the R&B scene (including Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Masters) One quick question – There is no mention of the work done at the studio by Bobby Womack – was this deliberate, or an oversight? Bobby laid down many of his best tracks in Muscle Shoals and I would have anticipated there being some reference to him in your book
sincere regards from across the pond – Clive Moss

    1. Hi Clive–Thank you for reaching out! I’m glad you enjoyed the book.

Bobby Womack was an oversight. There were so many wonderful artists who recorded there. As much as I would’ve loved to have been comprehensive (or at least hit all the highlights, however you determine them!), there was not an exhaustive list that I could find. I tried to pack as much as I could into those pages.

      Thank you for reading!
